Medicaid Program Transformation Kathy Messerli 10 Mar 2026 18:55 UTC
Governor Walz held a press conference this morning, proposing that the Medicaid system be pulled under one department vs split between the state, counties and MCOs. The DHS Commissioner shared in an email that they will engage the Stakeholder group (which I am on) in discussions. Just an FYI, as you consider the future of MHCA. It will be critical to be at the table.

Some associations are forming HR1 committees that address the changes recommended in that federal bill. There has been a great deal of discussion on whether it's better to be housed under one roof or give more dollars to the counties to do a better job. According to Walz, the trend is going more centralized and cited CT as an excellent program. I will be reaching out to my colleague there and learn a bit more about their system and share it with the new ED and the board.

Kind Regards,
