ED Update Kathy Messerli 17 Sep 2025 21:11 UTC
Greetings,

I sent several emails recently but haven't done a full update in awhile.

First of all, I would love your thoughts: We have promotion of the two new partners ready to go out this week and early next week and are prepared to launch them at the Annual Meeting. We have not included reference to the fact that MHCA will gain revenue from these partnerships and I'd love to get your opinion on that. My current plan is to share this verbally at their presentations at the Annual Meeting. We could include that info in follow-up promotions, as well. Feel free to share your thoughts on this messaging.

Advocacy
Andrea Jung and I had a busy week in DC! The Alliance held its inaugural Advocacy Week and did an excellent job pulling it together and providing us all with good information. An advocacy organization scheduled our meetings and we had a group of five people for the MN meetings. The new ED for MN Hospice & Palliative Care attended - their first time! She has a collaborative spirit and was grateful to be with us. Another unengaged member was there with her national organization and had some terrific client stories. Lastly, a leader of a PCA group serving the eastern coast lives in MN and joined us. As a group, we were able to meet with 7 offices and dropped off information with another one. I think we all agreed that the most surprising and promising meeting was with Rep Fischbach's LA!

The Advocacy Committee has identified and proposed priority issues for 2026 and Anni Simons will present these at the September 30 board meeting.

I believe I have mentioned my advocating for the home care position to be filled on the MDH Home Care and Assisted Living Advisory Council. The position has finally been filled, by Brianna Lindell. She has agreed to keep MHCA up-to-date if we are unable to attend the meeting. As an aside, Adara, where she works now, is seriously considering their MHCA membership so I'm not sure how their decision may impact our collaboration.

Operations
We have, admittedly, had a bumpy ride the past few months. Fortunately, Matt and Lauren are patient as we faced a difficult IT Migration, causing the most chaotic onboarding I have done! With that being mostly complete, we are now discovering some challenges with our database. There is no shortage of stress around here! Please let me know if you are aware of any balls being dropped!

2026 Committee applications are now open.

Education
While the preparation for the Annual Meeting has been a bumpy ride due to all of the transitions, we will be ready and look forward to seeing you all in a couple weeks! Unfortunately, our attendance is down quite a bit so we're doing a final push, in hopes of getting a few more to register. PLEASE help us encourage industry colleagues to join us!

And with that, I'll get back to AM prep!!

See you all soon!!

Kind Regards,

Kathy Messerli
