ED Update Kathy Messerli 17 Oct 2019 22:49 UTC
Fall Conference
I will start with the bad news: the DHS Commissioner is now unable to join us! DHS is working on a back-up plan - potentially an Assistant Commissioner and I am waiting for an update. In accordance with the strategic plan, we ask all of the board members to seek out state agency staff at the conference, as a part of our building relationships and being viewed as expert advisors. This will include: Natasha Merz and Cara Benson, DHS; Kathy Lucas and Lindsey Krueger, MDH and whomever replaces the Commissioner.

Please stop by to thank each of the sponsors - they will each have an exhibit table. Encourage them to consider being a 2020 sponsoring partner. They will have received information rolling out our new plan for sponsors and exhibitors.

Advocacy

  * The MN Congressional Delegation has stepped up and 9 of 10 have signed onto the PDGM bills!! Rep Omar is the only hold-out at this point.
  * We will be reviewing the legislative priority recommendations during our conference call in the morning and Kevin will share the approved priorities at the conference next week.
  * Mark your calendar for Day at the Capitol - March 4, 2020
  * We are making headway on increasing grassroot support; I'm sure Andrea will share more at the November board meeting
  * We now have 4 legislators participating in the panel and we will offer an opportunity for attendees to submit questions on cards.

  * State Senator Michelle Benson (R) District 31; Home: Ham Lake
  * State Representative Laurie Halverson (DFL) District: 51B; Home: Eagan
  * State Senator Jeff Hayden (DFL) District 62; Home: Minneapolis
  * State Representative Anne Neu (R) District: 32B; Home: North Branch

50th Anniversary

  * Video shoot: You will see a videographer at the Fall Conference, shooting footage for the anniversary video. Some will be background (B-roll) footage and a few people will be interviewed. Those who will be interviewed have been contacted by Mandy.

  * 2020 Logo: Organizations that are celebrating an anniversary often include that in their logo for the year. We have worked with a graphic designer to create a logo for 2020. You will note changes from our current logo but we are utilizing the heart and our complementary colors that are more conducive to this design and updated from the 70's green :) This is the 2020 logo; but it isn't ready to be shared publicly yet!

Re-branding
As we have been working on designs for the anniversary celebration and Annual Meeting, it has become apparent once again that our green logo is very outdated. With a new look in 2020, and our focus on the future beyond our 50th anniversary, I will be recommending that we do a re-brand in 2020 that would be ready for a launch in 2021. Stay tuned for more information.

Budgeting
Staff have all been working diligently on a budget that is reflective of the strategic plan while spending our members' dues wisely. Increasing resources and having the anniversary on the horizon, it is challenging. I look forward to a robust discussion with the Finance Committee.

I look forward to seeing most of you next week!
