Subject: ED Update
The big news for today is that Bill Dombi has officially been named as the NAHC President!! As we’ve discussed, he has made great progress since taking on the role for the interim and I am thrilled that the
search committee came to this conclusion! Other updates are below….
Advocacy
- EVV Report was published. It recommends the hybrid approach MHCA advocated for. The hybrid model of implementation would include
a state-purchased EVV system(s), allow any providers to choose an alternative system that meets minimum requirements set by the state, and includes a data aggregator.
- The
Paraprofessional Bill/legislative workforce committee met again last week. This meeting ended with some tension about the bill from last session and the legislators called for the various groups to “drop scope of practice concerns’ and come together
to develop a proposal for a bill that would be introduced this session. It is hoped that the approach will now focus on the level of care that is needed and what training is needed to meet those needs, taking safety issues into consideration. Judy Giel continues
to represent MHCA very well through these challenging dialogues!
- Home Care Licensure revisions – this process has dragged on much longer and been more difficult than we hoped for, but we have
now agreed to all language edits, with the exception of 3 topics that the provider associations and MDH have not yet agreed upon. We have another meeting to address those issues tomorrow. In the meantime, Kevin is getting the bill jacketed due to time constraints.
- DHS is now ready to talk with us about the
SOC rates.
Operations
- LAM integration – The Board Chairs, staff Execs and Olivia met last week. We will bring the latest proposal to the March meeting
for discussion and a vote.
- Nominating Committee – The committee has launched its ask for board candidates and developed a solid nominations plan. The next
step will be vetting candidates and discussing board officers. Thank you, Linda, for chairing this group!
- Team Leaders – there continue to be several transitions with home care and some of them will impact our team chair appointments.
I will bring a list to the March meeting for discussion. The latest news is that Jarod Champeaux has accepted a position out east, as anticipated. He will be leaving Heartland March 31 and is unable to finish his term as MA Team Chair. He will be missed by
MHCA!
- The refreshed website
will be launched March 1st!
- This week’s workshops
had excellent registration: 52 for today’s beginner OASIS and 88 for tomorrow’s CoP!
Stay warm and safe on the roads!!
