This topic continues to cause great angst and we have been advised that it will most assuredly impact our members, although we don’t know any specifics at this point.

The Survey and Regulatory Analysis Team (MDH Liaision for MHCA) reviewed the Elder Abuse Report and received insight from Rob Rode, who has been engaged in the legal dialogues around this report. Following significant discussion and input from Kevin, we are recommending that MHCA NOT draft a statement or take a formal position, but rather monitor the issue very closely. Our rationale, is based on the fact that home care (outside of Assisted Living) is not specifically noted in the report and our fear is that drawing their attention to us via a statement may not be in our best interest! As Kevin shared, “I think laying low is low risk.”

We do know that close monitoring and appropriate engagement will be essential. Please reply all with your vote on accepting this recommendation.

Yes = Accept recommendation that MHCA NOT make a formal statement

No = You believe MHCA should make a formal statement

I’m happy to address questions you may have – and Austin called in for the team meeting so he can also weigh in regarding the discussion. Thanks everyone – and Happy Valentine’s Day!
