Attached you will find a draft of the Certified Paraprofessional bill that we discussed earlier this fall. After not hearing much about this bill for some time
now, we recently learned this bill may be introduced this week, and the stakeholders working on the bill have asked if MHCA will take a position. Steve Gottwalt, working on the bill on behalf of PHCC, described the bill as: “With a severe shortage of LPNs
and RNs for HCBS, this is a carefully crafted and limited bill to help address the workforce shortage without new money. We have the involvement and support of the EMS community. We have met with the MNA, Board of Nursing and LPN Assoc., and have responded
to their concerns in this language.”
Please share any strong thoughts you might have on whether MHCA should take a position on the bill or remain neutral (preferably in an email to Kevin and me
and Kathy Messerli and our Leg Team Chair Vicki Gerrits).
