Similar for us, we require a CNA certificate at some point but it doesn’t have to be current.  The Medicare rule is something like 70-80 hrs of training and then pass their competencies.   The CNA certificate meets the training hours but it doesn’t have to within a certain time frame.

Perhaps they would get more re-tests if they exempted Home Care from other things when they keep their CNA/HHA certificate current.  Otherwise there isn’t really much incentive to keep it current, in fact it is just an added cost to them.

It is not an issue for our agency. Question how many agencies require CNA certification for homecare aides. We prefer it, but it is not a requirement by MC or MDH licensure. Depends on how agencies have written their job descriptions.

Good Morning,

Kathy has asked me to send the following message to you as her work e-mail is not up and running yet due to the move.

“I'm curious how many home care agencies are dealing with the nurse aides that need to re-test. The MDH Asst Commissioner that oversees this area invited me to a meeting on Tuesday to discuss this issue. He shared with me on Friday that very few have retested and I believe only 2% have passed the test! He is concerned that there will be a significant workforce issue when these individuals aren't authorized to work. I will get more info Tuesday but am curious how impacted our members will be. It would be nice to know a bit more before the Tues afternoon meeting. Any insight from you/other members is appreciated. Thanks!

Please reply to Kathy before Tuesday at noon. Thank you!
