Subject: ED update
I hope that you are all reading this after Christmas and have enjoyed time with your family!
Operations
December has been an extra busy month at the MHCA office; Allison and Annie have stepped up to help with several projects and we have been incredibly productive. We are all excited for 2016 and working with Rebecca Swanson. We will make
a public announcement in the informer in mid-January but wanted to share a bit about Rebecca with you. Rebecca worked as Asst Vice President of Publications/Communications for the Illinois State Medical Society/ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company for 12 years prior
to moving back to MN, to be closer to her family. Prior to that role, she spent 8 years in communications at Park Nicollet. We are very fortunate to have such a seasoned candidate who is excited to be joining MHCA - and we are all looking forward to welcoming
her to the team! Rebecca will begin January 18th.
The early projections for 2015 indicate a significant savings for the association; due primarily to various circumstantial factors. We will share the year-end financial report with you at the January board meeting.
I did a bidding process for the MHCA insurance (not including the employee’s health/dental benefits) since that had not been done for many years. I am pleased to report that we found a more extensive package for a lower rate. The association
was at risk with some of our association activities (such as the business partner’s evening party that we promoted at the Annual Meeting). We are making a few adjustments in the way this is promoted and our new insurance policy includes some coverage for events,
as well as Umbrella coverage. I took legal advice as well as input from insurance experts in making this decision. Our new policy will go into effect in January.
We are also very excited to have a membership brochure for member recruitment next year! I contracted out for this project & just approved the final edits today; Annie will be coordinating the printing while I am gone.
Education
The
Future of Home Care Conference and Technology Expo is coming together! This new event has taken significant planning time, but I believe it will an excellent program and I hope to see all of you there!! Remember we also have dinner with Bob Simione the
evening prior to the event (January 27th). Please encourage your colleagues around the industry to attend; they are sure to be grateful for the invite, with our outstanding line-up of presenters!
Jan and I reviewed the survey results for the Fall Conference. We will be piloting some changes in 2016: 1 day conference, with breakouts sessions and sponsors vs exhibitors. Although there was a close vote on the 1 day vs 1.5 days, it
would be difficult to fill more than a day of break-outs and that was a clear preference. There is a tie in the name, which we can discuss at the January Board Meeting. The event will be held at the DoubleTree in St. Louis Park. Allison will be working on
contract negotiations over the next couple of weeks.
Teams/Misc
You will receive full team reports in January; a couple of highlights include the Survey and Regulatory Team is meeting with MDH representatives, the MA Team is meeting with several DHS reps to discuss PCA Fraud and the Clinical Quality
Team is considering some options for a quality project.
Kevin and I are scheduled to meet with the Council of Health Plans Executive and their lobbyist in mid February. Since you have two dinners already scheduled in January, I decided to hold off on scheduling a lunch meeting with the MCHP
Executive until a bit later.
I will be ‘un-plugged’ December 27 – January 11th. Allison and Annie have a list of resources/individuals to reach out to should questions arise in my absence.
Thank you to each and everyone of you for a successful 2015 at MHCA!! I have thoroughly enjoyed my first full year here and you have contributed to that. Thank you for your on-going support and encouragement. I wish you all a happy, healthy
and successful 2016!
Warm Regards,
