Regulatory
The Survey and Regulatory Analysis Team (SRA) has reviewed the MDH recommendations for Medical Cannabis and suggested changes to the Home Care Rule. They will be sharing some suggestions with members regarding how to approach Medical Cannabis
in the home care setting, have asked that the Legislative Team consider pursuing language that will protect home care employees from a possession charge should a agency decide that the provider can assist with administration of the substance and I have shared
the following concern with MDH: nurses continue to have concerns that physicians need to be aware of cannabis use, as a preventative measure, for potential interaction purposes.
The Legislative has approved the SRA Team’s suggestions, which I’ll be forwarding to MDH today.
Organizational
The teams have begun meeting, with orientations being provided for each group. There have been just a few minor changes to the rosters (people no longer at agencies, etc) and I have a couple more that I’ll forward to the Exec Committee
today.
The EHR Task Force has made the final edits to their guidance document, which they plan to roll out at the Fall Conference. Speaking of the Fall Conference, we have an excellent agenda this year and I hope you’ll encourage your staff and
others to attend!
The OASIS training has surpassed budgeted attendance and Allison has a great line-up planned for 2016!
Andrea Jung and I met with the St. Cloud Times Editorial Board and they asked us to submit an article, which Brian wrote. Brian’s contact ended August 31st. I believe he brought value in drafting several communications for us
that can be used going forward with additional media outlets and providing training/coaching for members and staff in how to approach the media. He also drafted recommendations for next steps, which includes several media targets.
MHCA hasn’t had a proactive member recruitment plan (at least in recent years). It’s been a busy first year for me and we continue to have several priorities, but I am moving membership up to the top of that list. As a first step, we are
sending a recruitment letter and will be doing follow-up with the non-member Medicare-Certified agencies (74). We will also reach out to Comprehensive Licensed and PCA agencies in the next year.
I am doing due diligence in considering whether to continue with our current insurance agent and legal counsel and will keep you posted.
Please let me know if you notice something slip through the cracks during Annie’s leave.
Wishing you all a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
Warm Regards,
Kathy Messerli
