I totally agree, I was only commenting on how it might be perceived by the members—if they are even aware of that merger.

I think we should also consider the differences with them versus where we are.  We are a thriving association working with Leading Age for dual benefit.  Adult Day was a very small association (I think they only had 1 staff person).  I don’t know how well the adult day association was doing but they serve a small niche group in MN with very low reimbursement.  I would not be concerned by this but happy there are other associations within our new office structure who may provide additional insight as we do daily business.  We are still a very independent association and as a board we have decided we want to remain independent.  Leading Age is aware of that and only wants to work with us.

I am very concerned that the comments shared perceive a lack of trust.  Leading Age has helped us in the past and was instrumental in finding out current ED.  While the lease agreement may have taken longer than we would have liked there were many circumstances out of our control and their control that lead to the timely versus time consuming decisions.  As a dual member Leading Age has always been very ethical and reliable.

I guess I hadn't heard that.  It does make it seem they LA is in the takeover mode.

LeadingAge has been providing significant support services for MADSA (adult day services assn) for some time. MADSA has one part-time staff person. MADSA approached LeadingAge to discuss sustainability and together, they decided on a merger. The news was shared with Leading Age members today (see the announcement below).

Last week’s announcement about our move, only prompted one positive comment from a member, although the Informer may trigger a few more questions/comments. Also, it’s possible that this merger will lead our members to ask more questions.

On a related note, I am meeting with the CareProviders CEO this afternoon. She had heard we were merging with LeadingAge and appreciated the advanced notice and accurate information.

Dear Lisa,

We write today with exciting news about the future of adult day services in Minnesota!

The Boards of Directors for LeadingAge Minnesota and Minnesota Adult Day Services Association (MADSA) are pleased to announce the merger of our two associations, effective October 26, 2015.

We know adult day services represents a key part of the aging services spectrum and that together, we are well-positioned to represent Minnesota's largest community of adult day service providers. Members of both organizations will enjoy stronger capacity and have access to resources that help enrich their programs and support their participants and caregivers.

Our two organizations have long enjoyed an effective partnership - including shared services, educational events and public policy coordination. By bringing together our resources, expertise and capabilities under one banner, we are expanding opportunities to support adult day centers and informal caregivers across the state. We also have an opportunity to increase awareness in public audiences and the aging services field about adult day services.

You may have questions regarding this transition, so we've prepared a brief overview of the two organizations in this Fact Sheet and some Frequently Asked Questions to help share more about how this merger impacts your membership. We also invite you to contact Roni Falck, who will serve as the LeadingAge Minnesota Manager of Adult Day Services or Adam Suomala, Vice President of Membership and Strategic Affiliations at LeadingAge Minnesota with any questions.

Our respective boards voted unanimously for this merger, with excitement and anticipation for what the future holds.  We hope you are as excited as we are to take advantage of the new basket of services designed for Adult Day Programs. We welcome you to a new era of Association supports for Adult Day Programs and look forward to your involvement in shaping the future of Adult Day Services in Minnesota.

Sincerely,

Jon Lundberg
