We will need to be patient and watch for more updates; I am certain there will be more to come.

Federal Programs Funding Pause

The new presidential administration announced late Monday that there would be a temporary pause on grant, loan, or federal financial assistance programs. On Tuesday afternoon, a federal judge temporarily blocked part of the Trump administration’s aid freeze. President Trump announced Wednesday that this pause was rescinded.

There have been buy-out offers for many federal employees, so we may experience unprecedented turnover within the federal agencies, which would slow the processes down.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that while the earlier memo had been rescinded, the president’s executive orders freezing foreign assistance and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, for example, remain in effect.

If you have questions regarding the ICE and immigration activity, you are encouraged to join Fredrikson’s Immigration Group for a webinar on how to respond to ICE raids, investigations, and audits at worksites, including those designated as sensitive areas (schools, universities, hospitals, and similar areas).

Topics to be addressed during the webinar:

  • How to Prepare for Worksite Investigations/I-9 Audits
  • What to Expect During an ICE investigation/raid/audit
  • Administrative Warrants vs. Judicial Warrants
  • Know Your Rights for Individuals/Employees
  • Know Your Rights for Employers

While the funding pause was announced as not affecting Medicare or Medicaid, it was going to impact many sub-grants that feed into these programs.  Attorneys are advising providers to review your funding and be vigilant and observant regarding future announcements. MHCA will monitor the situation and keep you informed.
