I have a few updates for you before I head out on vacations – yes, I have two back-to-back vacations. The dates are listed below. The staff is in good hands and Kristy will be available when I am out for 2 weeks. We will be managing with fewer staff through the summer, due to vacations and a maternity leave. Please let Lauren, Dan, or me know if you are experiencing any gaps in responses.

 

Education/Updates

We have our Member Meeting next Weds, which will include the Legislative Summary/Update from Kevin and Anni, as well as the intergenerational panel. I am recording my highlights today, in case my Wi-Fi access isn’t working well; I do hope to be on the call. I noted that few board members are registered and wanted you to know that we don’t plan to do another legislative session update at the August board meeting. Kevin will focus those comments on the political environment and elections.

 

Legislator Awards

We will be presenting two legislator awards at the board meeting in August. These awards are based on advocacy during the past biennium (two years) and are going to Senator Hoffman and Rep. Noor.

 

Workforce Initiatives

June and July are busy months for Scrubs Camp; a big thank you to all of the MHCA volunteers that are helping with 6 camps this year. The scrubs camps attendance is down due to less scholarship money being available through the Office of Higher Education’s Summer Academic Enrichment grants. The MN Home Care Foundation is sponsoring one student at the Bethel and St. Paul College camps, where MHCA will be leading sessions.

 

I learned about a few more potential workforce partnerships and initiatives at a recent health education meeting that I participate in. I’d love for you to ponder ideas for expanding MHCA workforce initiatives – we’ll be discussing that during our strategic planning session.

 

The national merger

As I shared earlier this week, the merger with NAHC and NHPCO was made official this week. Bill Dombi also officially announced his retirement at the end of 2024. We are grateful he will be joining us for one last time at our Annual Meeting!

 

I hope you are all finding ways to stay dry! My farmer brothers are surrounded by mini lakes. The outdoor wedding I am attending tomorrow has moved indoors, and I’m hoping for dry days at the lake next week!

 

I will be out of the office June 24-28 and July 3-16.
