I have to agree with everyone prior. Nicely done, however it makes my heart hurt. I worry this is the first of many.

USE CAUTION - EXTERNAL EMAIL
This is a very strong and touching story. Makes you pause and think. It does highlight the workforce shortage as well as signifies the severity of it for Medical Assistance members. Hopefully, people exploring home care careers will see this as a field full of opportunities instead of discouragement.

Thanks Kathy for calling this to our attention. It’s always challenging getting journalists to print your actual point vs. some random quote taken out of context…however, I think the bulk of the article does share some truths about our staffing crisis.

Such an incredibly sad story. And worse, this is only one of so many similar situations that are occurring right now.
Thanks for sharing Kathy.

Greetings board members -
I was working with a Star Tribune reporter this past week, working to educate him on home health and PCA services. His heart-tugging story made front page this morning! He’s still mixing up home health and PCA so the context is sometimes askew, including the quotes he attributed to me but the message of needing more caregivers is very clear. I also tried to steer him toward the likelihood that agencies weren’t able to serve this man due to lack of staffing vs the fact that he’s on Medicaid but he opted for use the insurance as the basis for not accepting him as a client. Of course, I have no idea who he called or what the situation is. I also wonder where the county social services are; that is not touched on.
Our workforce campaign is starting November 14 and we are hoping this story won’t deter people from considering home care as a career!
Kind Regards,
Kathy Messerli
