While I’m admittedly struggling a bit to find the ‘sweet part’ of this news, Karen Peterson received an offer she ‘couldn’t refuse’ and will be leaving MHCA at the end of the month! As most of you are aware, Karen worked with advance care planning at the Twin Cities Medical Society prior to coming to MHCA. She turned down an offer to re-enter the serious illness arena because she has been so pleased with her role at MHCA. Unfortunately, they were able to significantly sweeten the offer!! Karen will be the Executive Director for The Center for Advancing Serious Illness Communication (C-ASIC), a new collaborative project between the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) and the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA).

 

I have begun the process of reviewing the position, which I always believe is wise to do and hope to post the position soon. Karen and I will be talking further tomorrow but my initial reaction is that home care experience is critical; however I don’t believe the person needs to be a nurse. I share that in case any of you may be aware of a good candidate in the industry.

 

I will keep you posted on this transition and appreciate prayers and well wishes as we seek the right candidate.
