Operations
I will be out of the office December 24 – Jan 3. I am reachable through Acacia or on my cell phone for urgent matters.
I officially signed the lease for our new office and we have signed off on the office layout. I anticipate the build-out will begin after the new year.
We learned that MCCA has requested that mail only be delivered once a week; we thought it was in the office but just not distributed. When we inquired how to access the dues checks more frequently, we learned that they forgot to tell us
the mail delivery was altered. We are doing our best to process checks but it is possible that more members than usual will receive reminders after they mailed a check.
Advocacy
Most importantly, I want to ensure you are all aware that Senator Relph passed away last week. He wasn’t returning in January, as he lost the recent election by just a couple hundred votes. Sen Relph authored several bills for us and was
a true champion for home care. Earlier this year he was one of the first Senators to speak up for COVID protections and relief. Unfortunately, he attended the Republican post-election party, contracted COVID and didn’t recover. Some of you may recall his step-son
impressing us with his knowledge and interest when he volunteered at our Annual Meeting in Duluth. Please keep Senator Relph’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
We received many good ideas around telehealth for home care and I have sent them to Kevin for consideration as a Senator contemplates a telehealth bill.
Four volunteers have stepped up to help DHS with the EVV vetting and to provide advice as they work through the design and implementation of a state system. We are pleased that home care providers will be at the table!
Kevin and Anni are solidifying authors for each of our bills as they prepare for the next session.
Mark your calendar for Home Care Advocacy Week, with a virtual event on March 10, 8:30 am. There will be more information coming, but members will be encouraged to contact their legislators through the week.
COVID
We are continuing to track the vaccine information and other COVID related updates. The local public health agencies are assigned to administer the home care vaccines but we are finding some are resisting that. We are working with MDH through
the HomeCare COVID Coalition to ensure there is full cooperation or alternative plans.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year!! Bring on the vaccines
😊
Be Well,
