After the weekend, we experience, it felt like MHCA needed to make a statement. For those of you outside of Region 5, I wanted to share the following email that we sent to Region 5 members (primary contact only). While there are some protests in communities around the state, I believe the metro is facing more safety concerns so we targeted the email.

Be Well,

Subject: A Statement from MHCA Executive Director

We at MHCA are disheartened by the tragic death of George Floyd and the elevated pain that this has brought about. Our hearts are heavy with the civil unrest that is happening in our communities. We proudly stand with our communities of color as we navigate this difficult time together. The home care industry consists of and serves people of all racial and ethnic groups. We will continue to strive for equality for all.

In addition to our concerns about humanity, we are concerned about the safety of you and your staff. If you are serving clients in the areas of unrest, please be mindful of the activities in the area. I encourage you to consider re-scheduling non-essential visits and monitoring your clients to ensure they are safe. Also, it is wise to ensure your staff are educated on your agency’s emergency preparedness protocol for handling potential situations.

We want to know how your services are affected by the unrest, if at all. If there is anything we might be able to help with, please reach out to Mandy Rubenstein.

Stay safe.
