I can’t speak for all the payers, but Medicare doesn’t give a timeframe that verbal orders and/or the POC have to be sent to the provider for signature. The only requirement is that the orders/POC
must be signed by the provider before the home health agency submits the claim for that time period.

Subject: [External Mail] RE: another question!
Hi all,
Bouncing off this question with another- Are there regulations for the provider on how long they have to get something over to the physician for signature? Also thinking not here but wanted to see if there is something I am missing.
For instance, when a plan of care is established, regardless of payer, how long does the home health agency have to submit that documentation to the physician or allowed provider for signature? Does this vary depending on the payer, or
are there specific guidelines indicating that the HHA would need to submit documentation for signature within a certain number of days?

Completely agree. We will use the unable to bill for services verbiage. We have also asked clients/family members to call the physician and encourage them to sign.

I agree with Paula. We follow a similar process/policy, and have had the most success with follow up when indicating we are unable to bill for services until orders are signed.

Nothing regulatory that I can think of for physician orders. Surveyors will check your policy and hold you to it. I would discourage anything less than 30 days in a policy. Include the time
frames you resend orders, for example every 7 days and after 21 days you call the clinic and speak with a clinic lead. In the past I have seen a cover sheet state something like: Please sign these home health orders because we are unable to bill for services
without a physician signature.

And one more question for today!
We have a question on Physician orders.
How long do we have before we are out of regulatory compliance on Physician signatures on orders? We have a few Physicians that do not sign right away and we are re-sending orders multiple times to try and get a signature.
Is there any recommended verbiage to get signatures more quickly?
Kind Regards,
