Subject: RE: Disposable negative pressure wound therapy
The 97605 and 606 are the wound vacs that are more common in homecare and are considered DME.
The 97607 and 608 are disposable negative pressure wound therapy devices. From my understanding, the home care agency buys the disposable device from the vendor and Medicare pays the HHA separately when a visit
is made AND the device is applied. You would use TOB 34X (vs 32X) for the visit and device. I’m not 100% clear on how you would bill if the nurse performed an unrelated skill in addition to the disposable NPWT dressing change (such as diabetic teaching) but
I think that you could bill that SNV on a 32X – but don’t quote me on that.
I met with a rep from Acelity and she sent me the following link to learn more about billing. We haven’t taken any patients with this device yet but it sounds like home care may be starting to get referrals for
this.

Subject: Disposable negative pressure wound therapy
Importance: High
Hi,
Please help me to understand the new wound vac HCPCS code on the consolidated Billing List for Home Care.
97605- Negative pressure wound therapy
97606 Negative pressure wound therapy
97607- Negative pressure wound therapy- this code for disposable NPWT device can be billed under Medicare Hospital OP Prospective Payment under TOB 34x- under 50 square centimeters
97608- Negative pressure wound therapy- - this code for disposable NPWT device can be billed under Medicare Hospital OP Prospective Payment under TOB 34x- over 50 square centimeters
What is the 97605 and 97606 descriptions and when are they used?
Does the Home Care purchase and apply these disposable devices???
I appreciate any help in understanding how this is going to work.
Thanks
