We just had to get set up through one of the new intermediaries to work on billing for the Choice network. I pulled a ton of resources. It was tough to figure out how it worked, but what I’ve gathered is that there is a new piece of the Choice program that now includes billing a third party administrator for service when the Veteran is referred outside for non-VA care. Health Net is the intermediary that we chose to set up with.

Here is a link to the Health Net website:

I mostly used the side bar to find out the information that we needed:

There are several resources there for you to use. We ended up working with our VA contact and with Health Net to figure out exactly what to do. We registered with Health Net as a provider (the process is relatively simple). We’ve been told that we need to set up our initial home care assessment appointments through Health Net, and then we will get auth from Health Net, which will allow us to bill them. Health Net then turns around and forwards documentation and information back to the VA, and supposedly once the VA pays Health Net, that’s when we will be paid.

This is all very new to us, too – I don’t believe we have gotten payment yet, but we do now have Health Net authorization for the Clients that need it, so we are hoping things follow the way they are supposed to!

I hope this helps!

Hey Folks

Does anyone out there deal with VA Choice?  We are having major difficulties related to obtaining authorization and receiving payment.

Does anyone have advice, a helpful contact, or other words of wisdom concerning VA Choice?
