Our hospice biller hand enters all the prescriptions that are missing before billing. We do not do
the electronic RX batch you do. You may need to improve process for the electronic RX batch so it is done sooner.
That makes for cleaner billing.

Subject: Hospice billing question
This is a question pertaining to medicare hospice claims and submission.
Because hospice claims now require rx detail, we are forced to wait nearly a month before we can submit claims from the previous month because we have to wait for the electronic batch rx download.
In some cases this means that the medicare common working file will not reflect the most current election information when a patient discharges and I prepare the 81B.
Consequently when I submit an 81B in these cases, it will be returned because that election is not showing in the CWF, and by the time the 81B can be resubmitted, it will be beyond the required 5 days. I realize that while the late
NOTR (81B) is not being penalized yet, it can only be a matter of time.
The only solution I can think of is to hand enter the preceding and final claim without the RX information, and then adjust them
with the rx information at a later date.
Does anyone have a better solution?
