Hi Laurie,

The payer workgroup put on a 2-part webinar last year that agencies can purchase. It has billing 101 and an advanced billing.

This can be found here:

Billing for Skilled and Unskilled Services - Minnesota Home Care Association (mnhomecare.org)

The various resources Tracy is referring to are free and can be found here (bottom of the page- payer guides):

Have you looked through documents on the MNHCA website? We have built an awful lot of tools and resources for new billers or billers who want to learn more or are just stuck on something .

Actually, this does help. I bill for SNF also, Pope and Connor usually do a yearly training. I wish that Home Care Billing would have some kind of training each year. It would be helpful to find out all this little tidbits of information. Thank

So we went through new emr 2 years ago. The best thing you an do is to make a copy of your claims for each payer so you can see the rev codes and hcpc codes. Most of the time if you are billing you services as a unit of 1, the rev code ends in a 1. If you bill services in increments, say 4 increments for an hour, then rec codes end in 0.  Making a copy of your claims from eobs or claims sent out and paid will be the best way to successfully track this so you can have payers set up correctly in new emr. I wish I had had more advice when we went through our transition so please reach out if you have basic qs to ask. And make sure you find out EXACTLY how your new emr works so you know how to set up payers. I was not thrilled with my experience at all and am still struggling to this day to fix things.

When I started home care billing, I basically followed whatever they taught me. We are switching to a new software program and now I am curious about why some things are done the way they are. How did you find out what codes each insurance
