The certifying physician needs to be on the claim for episodes that begin on or after July 1, 2014. If one physician is the certifying MD (does the f2f) and another physician is the attending MD (signs the POC), then both MD’s need to be PECOS certified and listed on the claim. If the MD who certifies and signs the POC is the same person, only the attending field needs to be filled in on the claim.

We only put the F2F doc on the claims if they are not a hospitalist, I would put the F2F doc on all claims if they are anything other than a hospitalist only.  If you know this to be wrong please advise.

I am wondering if someone can clarify the F2F rule that went into effect 07/01/2014 saying that you have to have F2F physician showing on claim. Is this rule relevant only for claims with dates of service of 07/01/2014 and after? Or does it mean any claims that are submitted? I am working on some claims that have dates of service before 07/01/2014. I know that there needed to be a F2F provided, I am just wondering if it needs to show on the claim if dates of service are before 07/01/2014 and the submit date took place after 07/01/2014. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
