The family needs to get the DOB corrected with Medicare. I would not bill Medicare with the incorrect number.

I would be ok to bill with wrong dob if everyone had the wrong dob. But the clinic, nursing home, , hospital. County, and state have the correct dob so I would have to manipulate billing for room and board
with one dob and billing medicare with wrong dob.

That’s a tough one Tracy. I think we have had to bill with an incorrect DOB before. Unfortunately, if the patient or family is not willing to get
the record corrected, you don’t have much for options. The other issue is that when the family

We have a hospice referral who has one dob which is his correct dob reflecting on his hospital, nursing home, and medical assistance record. For Medicare, his dob is different. The
reason why nobody picked up on this before may be due to he had an MSHO so billing wise, nobody billed Medicare traditional. But for hospice we will. So, the client POA (son) said its been that way for years and years and they could never seem to get it fixed.
He asked me to use the wrong dob which I was like at first well, I can link everything back to same person but then as I thought about it, I feel it is a bad idea because we would have to submit HIS records and claims under one DOB but room and board claims,
orders, and everything else would have to have the other DOB. So my instinct told me to let family know we cannot admit this way as we cannot knowingly bill and get documents signed under two different DOBs for same client.
Please let me know if there is something I don’t know I can do in this situation other than delay admission of a sick individual to hospice.
