I should clarify, the reason we don’t take them is because we share the potential oop cost with the client/family and they decide to go to an in-network provider, we don’t
just say no. We always talk to our clients and explain what they may have to pay out of pocket.

We generally still accept the referral it just creates a higher out of pocket cost for the patient. We inform them of their out-of-pocket cost before admitting. The only time we
decline the referral is if we are not contracted with the payer and they require a contract.

You bill the same way. It just means you need to find out if they will authorize coverage. They typically will ask member to choose an in network provider ifthere is one in reasonably close vicinity. Otherwise,
they will authorize coverage even if you are out of network. This should be determined before admitting client.
