Yes the verbage makes me uneasy.

My initial thought was that it meant it was going to mimic Medicare and require an NOA for the first date of service in January – whenever your new 30d episode would start. The phrase “effective with episodes of care” would make me think that the first episode that starts in 2022 would require an NOA.

However, thinking back to my past experiences with BCBS MSHO pts, I have always had to split episodic claims at the new year – end one episode on 12/31 (even if it started on 12/30, for example), and start a new episode on 1/1. But of course I can’t remember if that was still true after the switch to AmeriGroup, etc.

So now I’m uncertain as well, and also thankful for the collective input of the group!

So as I am reading this, do you all interpret this as we should put an admission date of 1/1/21 for all claims for services in January? Medicare asks us to do a fake Noe for any episodes that start after January 1st.  However, this BCBS bulletin says for any services that occur January 1st and forward. So if someone is on thirty day episode starting in December and ending mid January, do  you think BCBS means to do a Noe at beginning of episode starting in January or to do one for Jan 1st?

Oh good lord, I am so glad I have friends to chat about this with…. Lol… 😊
