Yes that is correct on abbreviations, it still needs to be spelled out and clearly written. For persons we find not to be homebound in the example given, we train staff to write out the reason they are not homebound. For example "you no
longer require the assistance of another person to leave your home," or "you are now able to drive/leave your home/get out unassisted/etc."

Good point, that is true, first you must spell them out and you can use the abbreviations after that, as long as you spell it out first. See how we have it spelled out with the abbreviation after. Then you can use the abbreviation after that.

Based on a training I took a while back, we were told abbreviations are never allowed on ABN’s and can cause them to become null/void. All words must be spelled out so anyone regardless if they have a medical background or not understand the terminology. Is this still in effect?

We do the same as Marnie in separating services and we use our rates for the agency, not Medicare rates

Based on a Medicare webinar I attended a while back, be sure that your disciplines are in separate boxes with the reason the visits are not covered for each discipline. Here is an example.

Agree homemaking will not go on there. But you say “our rates” is that your private pay rates then? We have Private pay rates and Medicare rates

If it’s not a medicare covered service, then no it does not belong on abn. We use our rates and we put the service type and the general care for the services types on the abn.

A question on ABN’s….
When filing in Box F do you use your private pay rate or Medicare rate as a general rule?
In Box D you put in Skilled Nurse, Home health aide…do you ever put in Homemaker or no because it is never covered by Medicare?
Thanks
