A reason for different HCPC codes is because the G0299 code for medicare is specific to an actual skilled level need for the client. The T1030 code for MA can be used for skilled level care but also for custodial
level of care, eg medication management. You will need to know the correct rev/HCPC code combination as well as billed units. For example, the T1030 for Ma is billed as a unit of 1 , or 1 visit. The G0299 code is billed in 15 min units. So for 1 one hour,
it is billed as 4 units. Some insurance companies want a 0550 rev code, and some want a 0551 rev code. The difference of the rev codes is the last number which signifies if the service is being billed as a visit or in time increments. Bill types also have
their meaning. Home care bill type is 32 with the last number having meaning. 322 is first claim. 323 is continuing for per visit billing, 324 is final for visit billing, 329 is for the claim billing on pdgm, 327 is corrected claim, 328 is cancel. TAKE DETAILED
NOTES IN A VERY ORGANIZED FASHION! If you put in the time to learn these things, you will be ok. The attachment is a very very helpful tool. Lots of info but keep it handy on your desk.
I am currently training a coworker to do billing. She has never done any medical billing. I have to teach her via teams meetings. It is very daunting. I will also have a new billing coworker this summer when
my current coworker for the past 11 years retires L….. I have been billing for 11 years and I still feel very nervous to be THE one with the most knowledge… I really
don’t think I hold a candle to the one who is leaving. Lol….

Here are the ones I use the most for anything NOT Medicare (usually). And I have included information from a Job Aid on NGS for Medicare codes.
