I took over after a biller was leaving and she left me with a huge mess.  I had zero experience with home health billing.  The best thing I did was meet up with someone local to me that was also a home health biller and we spent almost an entire day going over things and I definitely leaned on her for quite a few months, but then I got the hang of things.

That is part of the problem unfortunately. Our in-house biller left last April and I am still trying to get claims paid. I have been 'fixing' the payer set up in our EMR and have been somewhat successful as I have gone along, but i'm questioning if I have done it right....

That is the million dollar question! I believe most of us are self-taught or through co-workers. Trial and error, visit websites like MNITS and NGS. Look for billing information. Does your software have a billing manual? That is pretty much how I learned. With my first billing job, I called tons of people and asked questions.
