It was our impression this can be done via alternative methods but as a non billable service to keep in compliance.

Could you clarify what portion of the waiver you’re referring to?

Our agency’s interpretation of home health waivers in place so far have been that some visits, when approved by the MD/practitioner and included in the POC, can be done via tele-visit but in-person visits are still required for comprehensive assessments, particularly those that require OASIS per OASIS requirements.  It would be great if that is not the case, as my agency struggles with this situation as well.  At this point, we encourage a recert visit (even if brief in-person visit for minimal assessment followed by phone follow up) , but if the patient refuses, even after education of safety measures in place, we have been discharging as well.

Thanks!

Annetta,

THANK YOU!  I honestly thought maybe I remembered something about this but didn’t have the facts at hand, so am supremely grateful for your post!

Karen, We believe this should allow recerts to happen without an in person visit based on the Covid Public Health Emergency.

Maybe not everyone is aware of these temporary changes?

I have attached the CMS bulletin for reference.

Hey everyone, this isn’t technically a billing question but it’s related as it’s a problem relating to discharging a patient due to inability to recertify.  Anyone have any advice, or able to share their experiences?

We are having an increase of clients who are refusing to have a nurse visit to complete their recertification, resulting in a client discharge. This is for skilled clients (nursing & HHA services) as well as clients just receiving home health aide services. I am wondering how other agencies are handling this and if you have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance …
